I was introduced to Masoor Dal only recently. The pinkish orange dal is very high in its protein content. I have added spinach to make it a super healthy dish. Masoor dal can be cooked even without a pressure cooker. It gets cooked very quickly and hence can be prepared under 30 minutes.
Ingredients:
Masoor Dal | 1 cup |
Medium onion | 1/2 cup chopped |
Tomato chopped | 1 medium |
Palak leaves | 1 cup |
Cumin seeds | 1 tsp |
Mustard seeds (optional) | 1 tsp |
Chopped ginger | 1 tsp |
Chopped garlic | 1/2 tsp |
Curry leaves | 1 tsp chopped |
Turmeric | 1 tsp |
Coriander powder(optional) | 1 tsp |
Green chillies | 2 chopped |
Oil | 2 tsp |
Salt | as needed |
Method:
1. In a vessel, add enough water and boil masoor dal. Add turmeric powder and salt.Method:
2. In a pan, add oil. When the oil is hot, add mustard seeds. Once the mustard seeds start spluttering, add cumin seeds.Allow the cumin seeds to crackle.
3. Add onions, green chillies, chopped ginger, garlic and curry leaves.
4. Wait for the onions to brown a bit and add chopped spinach. Spinach will get cooked in a few minutes.
5. Add tomatoes and coriander powder(optional). After the tomatoes turn mushy, add the cooked masoor dal. Mix well and lower the flame. Cook for another 5 minutes.
