First of all, let me thank my wonderful readers for coping up with my silence on the blog for over two weeks. I was too busy with some personal things. I received so many messages from you asking if there was something wrong and why I am not posting these days. I am really thankful to them and it made me feel very special. I thought the blog was just an extension where I could express my thoughts and share my experiences in cooking, but you people made me realize that it is much more than that. I received some requests from dairy allergic / intolerant readers of my blog for a few recipes. I will be uploading them soon dearies..Thanks a lot for this amazing support and I am back here with a simple side dish for chapathis or rotis..Enjoy and support me as always..
Ingredients:
Green peas soaked | 2 cups |
Chopped onions | 1.5 cups |
Chopped ginger | 1 tbsp |
Chopped garlic | 1 tbsp |
Chopped tomatoes | 1 cup |
Green chilli slit | 2 or 3 |
Cinnamon | 1 small stick |
Cloves | 2 or 3 |
Turmeric powder | a pinch |
Coriander powder | 1 tbsp |
Roasted Cumin powder | 1 tsp |
Chilli powder | 1 tsp |
Channa Masala or any other curry masala | 1 tsp |
Cumin | 1 tsp |
Coriander leaves | to garnish |
Salt | as needed |
Oil | 1 tbsp |
Method:
1. In a pan, add half of the oil. When the oil becomes hot, add onions, green chillies, ginger and garlic in order. Saute well until the onions turn brown and the garlic loses its raw smell.
2. Add tomatoes and cook well until they turn mushy. Keep aside and let it cool. Grind to a thick paste.
3. In a pressure cooker, add the remaining oil. When the oil is hot, add cumin seeds, cinnamon, cloves. Add the tomato paste and spice powders. Take the soaked peas and add it to the gravy. Dilute with enough water to cover the peas. Add salt and pressure cook till the peas is well cooked.
4. Garnish with coriander leaves before serving.
Hope you liked this simple peas masala. I have avoided cashew nuts in this recipe. You can add them and the gravy would be much more delicious and creamy. Now, let me know what you think..
Delicious green peas masala… once of my favorites…
Thank you very much dear Rafeeda..
