Parippu Vada (Lentil fritters)

Keralites like me have a special affection towards Parippu Vada. This is one of the tastiest snacks which goes very well with Tea – Parippuvadayum chayayum (Parippu Vada with Tea).  I remember a shop (bakery) near my house – It was called M S Bakery and it is the place where we used to get the yummiest Parippu Vada from. Most of the evenings, we used to buy from there – they were very crisp and we were really addicted to the taste. Yesterday, I made these Parippu Vadas. Here is my recipe for the same.

Parippu Vada 1

Ingredients:

Toor Dal(soaked for an hour) 1 cup
Chopped ginger 1 tsp
Chopped green chilli 1 tsp
Chopped curry leaves 1 tsp
Chopped small onions 2 tsp
Oil for frying
Salt as needed

Method:

1. Soak the Toor Dal in water for an hour.

2. Drain the Dal and grind coarsely in mixer with no water added.

3. Add other ingredients with the ground mixture. Mix well.

4. In a big Kadai or pan, add enough oil to immerse the vadas and heat. When the oil becomes hot, shape the ground mixture into patties and fry till golden brown. Drain the Vadas and serve hot with a cup of tea.
