Brussel Sprouts are green vegetables which belong to the group of cabbages. They are rich in Vitamin and Folic acid. They are also considered as a cancer fighting food which also promote DNA repair in cells (source – Wikipedia). For me, they are mini cabbages. They look so cute and are exactly like tiny cabbages. This is a simple stir fry which can be cooked as an accompaniment to either rice or chapathi..If you are new to this vegetable, here is a beautiful video which explains how to trim brussel sprouts.
Ingredients:
Sliced Brussel sprouts | 2 cups |
Chopped small onions | 2 tbsp |
Mustard seeds | 1 tsp |
Red chillies | 1 or 2 |
Green chillies | as needed |
Curry leaves | 4 to 8 |
Oil | as needed |
Salt | as needed |
Method:
1. Heat oil in a pan. When the oil is hot, add mustard seeds. When the mustard seeds splutter, add small onions with red chillies, curry leaves and green chillies as needed.
2. When the onions are slightly brown in colour, add the sliced Brussel sprouts. Saute it and add enough salt. Cover and cook for 5 to 7 minutes. Sprinkle water if required.
3. Serve hot with rice or chapathis.
