Ragi Idli

I have a very healthy recipe for you today which I tried after seeing one of my blogger friends’ post. Yes, Ragi Idli. Ragi otherwise known as Finger millet has immense health benefits. It is rich in Calcium and a good source of fibre. It is also a great source of iron and prevents anaemia. It is an excellent baby food which helps in the overall development of babies. This Idli recipe I found in Sathya’s blog is very easy to prepare as it uses just Ragi Flour, Urad Dal and salt.

Ragi Idli

Ingredients:

Ragi Flour 1 cup
Urad Dal (whole) 1/2 cup
Salt as needed

Method:

1. Soak the whole Urad Dal in water for 2 – 3 hours.

2. Grind it to a smooth batter.

3. Add Ragi flour and enough salt. Mix well and bring it to Idli batter consistency by adding enough water.

4. Allow to ferment overnight or at least 8 hours. Stir well after it has fermented and see if you need to add more water.

5. Pour the batter to greased Idli moulds and steam it for about 15 – 20 minutes. Ragi Idli takes a bit longer to cook than the normal Idlis. You can insert a tooth pick at the centre to see if it is done.

6. Serve it with your favourite side dish.Ragi Idli 2

Did I mention that Ragi aids in weight loss too?? What are you waiting for? Make this nutritious breakfast and stay healthy..
