How many of you like bittergourd? It is one of the vegetables that many of us hate. Even I used to hate it when I was small but later started accepting it considering its health benefits. My mother makes Pavakkai Pitlai and Pavakkai mezhukkupuratti at least once a week. I do not cook it very often as my daughter does not like it and I do not feel like forcing her to have it. I remember those days when I used to dislike it..But this recipe changed her attitude totally and she has started liking it! You have to try this too if you have an aversion to this healthy veggie.
Ingredients:
Thinly sliced bittergourd | 3 cups |
Chilli powder | 2 tsp |
Rice flour | 5 – 6 tbsp |
Turmeric powder | 1/2 tsp |
Salt | as needed |
Oil | to deep fry |
Method:
1. Slice the bittergourd after removing the seeds completely and mix the other ingredients apart from the oil. Keep aside for 10 -15 minutes.
2. Heat the oil in a deep pan and once the oil is medium hot, add the bittergourd slices in small batches.
3. Fry till golden brown. Use kitchen tissues to drain excess oil.
I am sure you would start loving Pavakkai after this..Let me know how you like it.
